The Twelve Powers of Man

In "The Twelve Powers of Man" written by Charles Fillmore, co-founder of the Unity Movement, we read, "The subconscious realm in man has 12 great centers of action, with 12 presideing egos or identities. These identities, such as love, faith, wisdom, etc., are expressions of the One Power, the Christ within each of us. The 12 disciples symbolically represent each of these twelve pathways, these 12 Powers of the Christ."

Twelve is a symbolic number in the Bible meaning "completion." In addition to the 12 disciples and 12 tribes of Israel, there are 12 sons of Jacob, 12 kinds of fruit on the tree of life, 12 months in the year, 12 inches to the foot, 12 units in a dozen, and so on.

At Unity on the Eastern Shore we honor the power for each month by surrounding ourselves with its color, eat foods of that color, read about each disciple, and so on.
